UM Homecoming Fundraiser
UM Homecoming is Opportunity to donate
$6 parking fee is donation
On Saturday September 22, we will hold a parking lot fundraiser on Griz Homecoming Game day. We invite you to help us raise money for MDSC client activities by driving into a slot at WGM Group parking lot located at 1111 East Broadway, Missoula. WGM Group--a civil engineering, surveying, and land use planning firm--is permitting us to use their lot for the second year in a row. Last year we secured 119 cars and over $600!
Quickly and conveniently park your vehicle for $6 while you attend the Big Game this year on September 22. All the proceeds will go towards expanding the life experiences of our clients with severe developmental disabilities.
Beginning at 11:00am our staff will greet drivers with a wave and a smile as they guide drivers into the WGM entrance from the driveway. It will be a self-parking process on a smooth, clean surface with plenty of lane space for maneuvering. This really nice lot is comprised of a single level with some shade trees and easy access to the sidewalk which runs to the UM footbridge. There are three handicapped slots, too, so please use them only if you qualify.
So if you drive to the game and need a safe spot to park, consider making it a philanthropy day! Look for the MDSC logo at the right-hand turn into the WGM Group (big sign) parking lot, going east on E. Broadway about 200 yards past Albertson's on the right. We are so very grateful to WGM Group for giving us the opportunity to add dollars to our Client Activity Fund.
There is a shuttle to campus and Washington Stadium you can catch just steps away, or you can walk there in about 10 minutes. The game kicks-off at 1:30pm. Don't delay! You don't want to miss the exciting opening show. Opt for convenience with a cause. Just pull-in and park with MDSC on Saturday September 22!
MBIA Support of MDSC
MBIA Support of MDSC Rings Clear as a Bell at Gala Event
It is with the greatest delight that Missoula Developmental Service Corporation wishes to thank the amazing members of MBIA (Missoula Building Industries Association) for their hosting of the 2011 charity gala and auction that sent our mission of “Opening Doors, Transforming Lives” to a new level of recognition in the community. That theme --which is MDSC’s tagline-- became the mantra for MBIA in their effort to raise funds that will certainly help us to defray the costs of remodeling three recently purchased houses. Work on them has begun and they will become group homes for 12 adults coming from the state institution where some have lived for many decades. Work crews expect to have all the homes ready to be occupied by the end of January 2012.
The Gala was attended by over 150 people whose generosity was abounding considering that many building-related industries have been hard hit by a stagnant economy everywhere. When one vacation for a week on Placid Lake was bid up past $1400, and then the runner up bid for a second week for the same price tag, it’s easy to imagine the generosity that coursed through the Hilton Garden Inn ballroom that night. One especially elegant item was donated to the auction on our behalf by our friend Jim Peebles, owner of Pierce Flooring at 1603 Brooks Ave.
MDSC Chief Executive Fran Sadowski took the podium and explained how the expansion to embrace the 12 new MDSC community members has meant major expenditures going into renovation. Additionally she gave everyone the news that in a year or so we will begin a capital campaign to fund the creation of a new day activity center somewhere in the city. She thanked MBIA, the event’s lead sponsor Community Bank, and MBIA Gala Chair Eric Petersen for electing us as the 2011 flagship charity. Then a few of our clients took the stage to support Fran’s acknowledgement s and to thank all MBIA members in song. Jackie, John, Justin and Mike gave joyful & studied performances, accompanied by staffer Kristin Johnson and Milton Neuenschwander , in performances of seasonal favorites “Amazing Grace” and” Jingle Bells.”
It was clear and agreed that this gathering was a magical way to start the holidays.
Grounds for Independence
“Grounds for Independence” Partnership Will Raise Funds to Buy Safety Ramps
From August until the end of September, a bevy of Missoula-based companies are helping us to raise funds for client special needs. Our campaign Grounds for Independence was launched in early August and is supported by some of the most prominent coffee businesses in the area: Florence Coffee Co., City Brew, Rocky Mountain Espresso, Lighthouse Espresso, Liquid Planet, Zoo Town Brew, Break Espresso, Charlie’s Coffee Company and UM Bookstore Cafe. When you pull-up to one of their kiosk windows you’ll not only want to tip the barrista before leaving, but you’ll hopefully be enticed --by a delightful MDSC ambassador in the form of a hand-decorated coffee pot-- to throw a few dollars or coins into it to aid people with severe developmental disabilities. These funds will be used exclusively to buy two ADA compliant entry ramps for eight visually impaired clients who also have physical limitations. Three homes will be added to our community of nine in order to accommodate 12 new friends coming after many years spent at the state institution in Boulder. To get that whole story go to Welcome Means Work.
Personal independence leads to self-esteem and social confidence. MDSC makes personal growth happen and community integration makes it possible. It is our founding mission. Before September 30, we hope you’ll be able to visit s few of the fine businesses putting their charity into action. Here is how to find them.

Only SUPERLATIVES can be used to describe MDSC’s March 20th fundraiser at MCT. The Missoula community proved once again to be MOST generous. Our guests were TOTALLY fascinated by the auction items, and auctioneer Larry Markuson was GRAND at coaxing out the HIGHEST bids for, among other things, Ken Staninger’s donated sports SUPERSTARS’ memorabilia. HAUTE cuisine hors d’oeuvres by Harriet’s Fine Cooking contented the palate, washed down with some BIG vine flavors from Rhino Bar. The Godspell Special Performance & Auction to benefit our VERY SPECIAL adults with severe developmental disabilities was a resounding HIT and we have our AMAZINGsponsors to thank for their support of the whole WONDERFUL evening!
Give Local Missoula
Give Local! Give on May 6
Marking the centennial anniversary of community foundations, the Give Local Missoula fundraising campaign encourages everyone to support their favorite local charities, especially on this one day of the year. May 6 2014 is the day the Missoula Community Foundation, its hub organizer, has chosen to celebrate local causes. This year MDSC is one of 90 participating charities who hope to benefit from ordinary people looking beyond their lives to improve the lives of others: Philanthropists-for-a-day! Every dollar donated on May 6, to any participating Missoula-based nonprofit will be matched by funds from a local pool of sponsors from businesses and foundations. National matches will also be applied. The matches will be allocated according to the ranking of the charities getting the higher total contributions. So please give generously! The flyer will take you to a secure web site where you'll be able to make a donation to us ONLY ON MAY 6. And thank you!
