Integration means not only moving throughout the mainstream Missoula community, it can also mean learning and taking on challenges that expand personal experience. Victories and joys can happen when a client gets the guidance and encouragement that our day support teams provide at our Day Activity Center on Marshall Street. Advancement of the individual’s potential is at the core of activities offered to adults with developmental disabilities, whether they reside with us or not. In Speak Easy clients learn better ways to communicate; for instance, they learn sign language or refine social-interaction skills. In REACH clients strengthen mobility and coordination. In Voc-Abilities clients can test their task orientation and focus on productivity. The recreational Club MDSC stretches our clients’ competitive side with stimulating physical challenges while encouraging team spirit and teamwork. The Blue Hat Society eases the senior over 55 years into enjoying activities at life’s slower pace. Activities at the MDSC Center contribute many elements to the realization of a client’s Personal Support Plan such as summer camp, choir recitals, learning to play a musical instrument, fishing, swimming, playacting, painting, learning horsemanship and many other growth opportunities.
